Well done to the UK GALLERY RIFLE TEAM on winning the German Underlever international in Lietmar, three for three. Score and photos coming soon.
Dear all,
The next installment of GR community news to come out of Bisley
CHRISTMAS SHOOT AND SOCIAL Saturday 6th December
THE OSCARS
Yuletide draws closer, which means fun, frivolity and food and at a very
cheap price to boot! At this years Shoot and Social we will be following
a similar format to last year, with the shooting held on Butt Zero. However,
due to their impressive menu and unique facilities, the venue will be
the Army Rifle Association Officers Mess.
For those of you who have no idea what this is about, a brief explanation!
This is primarily set up as a thank you to the many hard working volunteers,
who help to ensure the Gallery Rifle weekends take place and run smoothly.
We are planning a day of fun filled shooting - nothing ordinary here.
A Log Chop for teams and individuals, Shoot the Snowflake,
Running Rudolph, some old favorite's with new twists and,
new for this year, the prestigious Pan Shoot sponsored and
designed by the two Sallys. Festive attire throughout the day is positively
encouraged.
Shooting starts at approximately 0900 on Butt Zero. Hot beverages, heat
and shelter will be available until 1230, when shooters will retire to
the ARAs Officers Mess for lunch.

When ready, back to the range to finish off the days shooting.
The venue for the evening is also the Officers Mess. We have the use
of the clubhouse all evening and the well stocked bar will be open until
late. Our theme for the evening is The Oscars and as obviously
befits such a famous event, we all need to be dressed accordingly. Posh
frocks, dinner suits or maybe you could come as the actor/actress that
won an Oscar, or the character they played in their Oscar wining performance.
There will, of course, be an award ceremony for best male and female interpretation.
As in previous years massive prizes will be awarded to the winners and
for the best dressed guests including: Peltor Sportac Electronic
Ear Defenders; Cash; Free Entry to Competitions; CED 700 shot timer; Alcohol
(!); a Christmas Hamper and many more.
Guests should arrive between 1800 and 1830 for dinner served at 1900.

This whole event is heavily subsidised by the National Shooting Centre, but there will still be a small charge of £2 for an individual competition and £5 per team competition. People shooting the whole day are welcome to partake of the lunch without cost. Range Officers who have helped out with two or more events throughout 2008 can enjoy the evening meal free of charge. Other guests will be asked to contribute towards the evening food.
I have been able to secure a £10 fee for ABC lines for those people who need accommodation. This can be booked through the Accommodation Officer at accommodation@nra.org.uk or on 01483 797777 ex 135.
If you wish to attend please complete the attached form. All forms must
be sent back to me by Thursday 27th November 2008.
Each year, this event has been a huge success and I have every confidence
that this year will be no different. At this time of recession and future
doom and gloom, take advantage of the National Shooting Centre Christmas
goodwill!
MEDALS AAW
Lots of grumblings have reached me about the late issue of the winners medals for Autumn Action Weekend. Unfortunately, we have again experienced problems with engraving which has delayed the distribution of the medals. We have been promised, however, delivery by the end of this week. We hope to post these out fairly quickly after that.
GALLERY RIFLE ENGLAND TEAM 2009
The 2009 England Gallery Rifle Team has just been selected.
Competitors who have risen to the top in the GR Timed & Precision
One and Multi-Target events in 2008 will now compete for England at the
Phoenix and the National Championships and elsewhere.
They have been chosen from those who have shown ability and consistency
in either the two GRSB or GRCF events taken together. It is the performance
in the aggregate that counts as this is what they will be competing in
in 2009. Some are all-rounders and others are specialists in one calibre
or the other.
The process is driven solely by performance and is based on the results
from open meetings at the NSC and around the country. If your club is
holding open, classified meetings under NRA rules and not sending in the
results, ask them to do so in 2009 and add to the potential pool for the
selectors.
It doesnt matter who you know or which club you belong to, all you
have to do is turn out as often as you can and, of course, shoot incredibly
well! Some members of the 2009 Team have never shot at Bisley.
The help and advice of the National Governing Body for England, the English
Twenty Club, in the creation of a national GR structure is gratefully
acknowledged.
Selection of the Teams for Scotland and Wales is also under way and those
selected will be told personally by their countrys selector.
TRAFALGAR RESULTS
The Trafalgar Meeting results have now been finalised and can be found
on the NSC website
Trafalgar Results
I hope to see many of you on the 6th December until then -
Good shooting and good luck!
Brian Thomas
